The Last Time I Saw My Father

The last time I saw my father, he was appearing on Regis and Kathy Lee — but Kathy Lee was on vacation that day and Regis’s wife stood in for her.

My father, a restaurant critic from Pittsburgh at the time, was slated to talk about kitchen gadgets. I remember sitting in the green room at the time with Will Smith and the butler of the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” Afterwards, we retired to our hotel room and stayed in a beautiful two-bedroom suite.

I have fond memories of the last days I spent with my father and the time we spent at the Waldorf Astoria.
