A Presidential Connection
2021
My name is Stewart D. McLaurin, and I am the President of the White House Historical Association, founded by Jacqueline Kennedy and chartered in 1961, a nonprofit historical and educational organization that plays a vital role in preserving the White House and recording its unique history.
The Waldorf Astoria is not only a significant part of New York City history, but it also has a special place in presidential history. Over a dozen presidents since Herbert Hoover stayed a night in the historic building, and some presidents even made the Waldorf Astoria their permanent residence.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Waldorf Astoria in the suite named for President Herbert Hoover, who made the Waldorf his home for over thirty years post presidency. And just like the rest the of this magical historical hotel, those rooms were rich with history.
