Our Special time in the most iconic hotel at NYC
2009
Back in 2009, I planned my first vacation to New York City. I wanted to make it special, and why not?
First, we decided to go at the most special time of the year: Christmas. Then we wanted to make Christmas even more special. We decided to stay at the most iconic hotel in NYC: Waldorf Astoria New York.
When we arrived at JFK from Puerto Rico, it was cold and raining. The taxi tried to leave us at the main entrance. In response, the security guard at the entrance said, “You are not going to leave our guests here in the rain, please use the garage.” Wow that was service! We felt so special and important.
When we got inside, our mouths fell wide open upon seeing the beauty of the lobby, the chandeliers, the mahogany walls, and the people.
When we got to our room, we noticed our view looked into the top of the kitchen, which did not feel as special. We went to the reception desk and the concierge instructed us to leave all the luggage in the room and to enjoy the city. When we came back, they gave us the card to a new room. And wow was it special!
They gave us a much larger, corner room with a view of the Chrysler Building. We ran to the lobby and tried to explain that someone made a mistake and that room was too big! The concierge said to us, “There is no mistake, this is how we treat our guests.” They made our stay magical and special.
The location of the hotel was so perfect. We went to Central Park, Empire State Building, Times Square, Madame Tussaud and other museums just within walking distance. We also spent New Year’s Eve at Times Square and welcomed the 2010 New Year with our kids.
We spent 10 days at the Waldorf Astoria and each day was better than the previous. We took photos of every inch of the hotel. We viewed the pictures of every important person that went to the hotel, and we said to ourselves, we are now part of this history.
We will never forget our trip to New York City and our time at Waldorf Astoria New York. Our family loved it and we can’t wait to return.
