Charlie
A Waldorf Story by Carla Brown
My late paternal grandfather, Mr. Charles “Charlie” Brown was a cook at the Waldorf in the ‘50s and '60s. My father told me that his father was so good at his job that his boss would pick him up every morning, fearing other well known hotels would immediately hire him to work for them. I also understood the baseball great Mickey Mantle specifically requested my grandfather cook for him whenever he visited New York.
