A Model In The Making….
2000
When I was younger, I modeled all over the world. My daughter expressed an interest when she was a teenager. So, I enrolled her in the Barbizon School of Modeling.
Eventually, through a recommendation from the school, my daughter entered a modeling competition, MAAI. It took place at the Waldorf Astoria, NYC.
She had a blast getting to know the other young models and was not too nervous in the competition. She won 2nd place runway competition, and 4th place photograph competition. Eighteen different agencies who saw her at this competition wanted her to work for them. Her decision was that she was done. She chose not to continue with modeling, but enjoyed the experience. When asked, “What was your favorite part of the modeling adventure,” she replied, “Staying at the Waldorf Astoria, of course!”
You see, we had stayed at the Waldorf Astoria before. When my daughter was 7 years old, I brought her to see Phantom of the Opera at the other Majestic Theater. We have a Majestic Theater in San Antonio, too. We saw the same play there first. When asked what her favorite part of that New York experience was, she replied at the time, “Staying at the Waldorf Astoria! Oh, and when the chandelier fell from the ceiling in Phantom of the Opera. It was better here than in San Antonio.”
My daughter’s memories from her first stay when she was 7 were renewed during her memorable modeling experience, and will never be forgotten.
